Recently, I was asked to visit Anna Maria Island Florida for The Mommyhood Chronicles. It was an experience that I will never forget!
Anna Maria Island Florida is located down in South Florida. Just a bit south from Tampa. Just 2 hours away from the hustle and bustle of Orlando and theme parks. Even with Anna Maria Island being so close to Orlando and Tampa, you’d never know. It’s like being in a completely different world. Relaxation is the theme for the Bradenton Area which consists of Anna Maria Island, Bradenton, and Longboat Key.
While we spent the majority of our time on Anna Maria Island Florida, we did explore a bit of Bradenton and the surrounding area. Mixon’s Fruit Farms is a definite must stop while visiting the island. You’ll find some of the most delicious Orange Swirl ice cream, cute little animals (and not so little animals), a maze, and a kids fairy garden to explore. The people of Mixon’s Fruit Farms are so nice and welcoming, and if you are lucky you might just catch a glimpse of the Mixon Man.
If you are looking for the best way to explore Anna Maria Island Florida, might I suggest a bike or golf cart rental from the super sweet folks of Beach Bums?! Since the island itself is only 7 miles, driving your vehicle everyday is just silly. Not only do you have the option of bike, golf carts, or even scooters, but there is the free trolley and the monkey bus as well. The free trolley stops have 15 minute intervals. So if you walk up to a stop right as a trolley is leaving, you will have to wait about 15 minutes for the next one. We didn’t experience the monkey bus during our stay, but next time I will make a point of it.
Anna Maria Island Florida offers some of the best dining experiences you will ever see. Everything from eclectic finds like Ginny and Jane’s to upscale at PIER 22. While visiting the island you absolutely have to go in and try out The Donut Experiment. Want dinner with a spectacular sunset view? Then take a seat on the beach at The Sandbar. Looking for delicious seafood that melts in your mouth? You’ll want to head on over to The Seafood Shack. Now if you’re just wanting a bit of Mexican street food after dining on seafood delights, then Poppo’s Taquiera is your spot. And dessert, well be sure to stop at one of the many ice cream shops on the island. Personally, I suggest hitting Two Scoops and having a Coffee Crunch milkshake.
You’re visiting Anna Maria Island Florida. It’s an island. Gulf on one side. Ocean on the other. So you are planning some water fun. Right?! Well, how about a day trip to the beach. Not like a couple of hours of swimming. But an entire day. Might I suggest Coquina Beach? Coquina Beach offers plenty of shells to collect, picnic tables for lunch, changing stations for getting into and out of those bathing suits, and gorgeous photo opportunities. Along with beach days, you can go kayaking, horse riding down the beach, snorkeling, and so much more.
Wondering where to stay while you are visiting Anna Maria Island Florida? I prefer vacation home rentals through companies like Anna Maria Vacations, but then again I have a bit of a larger than normal sized family. You can find homes for rent, hotels, and condos. And I can’t forget about camping! Bring your RV and you’re all set.
If you are planning your next family trip, make sure that you check out all that Anna Maria Island Florida and the Bradenton area have to offer. You might find that the theme parks aren’t all that is out there!
