It’s summer time. Hot. Humid. But time to get out of the house, into the lake, and enjoy your family and friends! If you are looking for ideas on how to throw an epic block party for your neighbors and friends, well look no further. We are here to save the day.
When it comes to throwing the most epic summer block party, you have to have games. My answer for summer time block party fun- Water balloons. Go ahead and fill those bad boys up. It’s hot and sticky out here in Florida. A little water fun will definitely have the kids squealing and having a blast. Want to really get them going? Throw in some water guns as well! Just don’t get to aggravated if you happen to get caught in the crossfire. Adults can get involved in a rousing game of horseshoe or even corn hole.
A summer block party isn’t a party without drinks for both the adults and the kids. You can find plenty of yummy concoctions on the world wide web, but I’m kinda partial to my Strawberry Lemonade Dream. The kids will absolutely love you for this treat. Want something a little more adult oriented? Well, try stocking up some craft beers from local breweries. Introduce your friends to a world of goodness outside of the ole stand by beers.
Shade. I mean need I say more? It’s summer. It’s HOT. It’s also quite sunny. Hence the whole it’s HOT. Set up areas of shade for your guests to cool off. It will have everyone thanking you immensely for the brief respite from the heat. We have a rather large back porch, but for those who do not- creating shade is pretty simple. And it really doesn’t cost a lot. Make make-shift cabana areas by hanging a sheet (you can go all fun colors or white, but do not go dark colors since dark colors attract more heat) in between trees or poles made from PVC pipe.
Good music is a must. The problem is that while you may share a similar taste in music with many of your friends and neighbors, it’s not guaranteed that everyone will only want to listen to Country music. Or rock and roll. Or even Top 20 stuff. So why not create a Facebook event page for your block party, and ask everyone to give you 3 songs they want to hear. Then when your are setting up that playlist for the big bash, you can make sure you have something that everyone will enjoy.
The most epic summer block party has one thing that will have your friends and neighbors talking for years to come. Really good food. Not your standard run of the mill bbq chicken and baked beans. Nope. While those are fine and dandy, especially if you make some mean BBQ chicken like my hubs does, but you will want something different that they will talk about. Something they will not be expecting. Something like this Quinoa & Pepper Pilaf using Swanson Broth and truRoots Quinoa. You could choose to serve this yummy side dish either straight from a bowl, or you can do like we did and turn it into Stuffed Quinoa & Pepper Pilaf. By putting the pilaf into baby bell peppers you are getting a pretty serving option, AND you are also getting the whole no silver needed aspect. Finger foods are always something I try to have at parties. Why? Because I don’t particularly like washing a ton of dishes, and I’m not about to waste money on those plastic serving utensils. So the more finger foods, the less dishes, the less dish washing I have to do. It’s a win win.
